CALL FOR NOMINATION
Joseph F. Novek Outstanding Student Leader Award
The SME Education Foundation is seeking nominations from SME Student Chapter Faculty Advisors for student chapter members eligible for the Joseph F. Novek Outstanding Student Leader Award. This award will recognize the graduating college senior student who best exemplifies the qualities that Mr. Novek both valued in others and exemplified in himself: leadership, service, perseverance and entrepreneurship. The award seeks to reward students for their academic and professional accomplishments as they enter the manufacturing workforce.
The recipient of the award will receive a $2,500 prize.
Criteria for Selection:
- Only SME student chapter faculty advisors can nominate students for this award.
- Students must be at senior class level and expect to graduate during this academic year.
- Students must have studied manufacturing engineering, technology or a closely related field.
- Students must demonstrate leadership capabilities and a prior work history (professional employment, student internship, co-op employment or volunteer service to the community).
- Student must be a member of an SME student chapter.
- Students must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
Nomination Packet should include the following items:
- Completed Nomination/Application Form
- Letter of recommendation from the faculty advisor. (Make your case as to why this student should be selected…address his/her demonstration of leadership skills and participation in the student chapter activities, personal and professional accomplishments, awards and honors, work and/or volunteer experiences, and give examples of cooperation, attitude, team spirit, and professionalism..)
- Student’s resume
- Copy of student’s transcript
Nomination forms and materials must be submitted to the SME Foundation no later than February 1 to be considered for selection.
