Our Bright Minds Student Summit at EASTEC allowed high school students to get their first taste of manufacturing with keynote speakers and guided show-floor tours of exhibiting manufacturing companies.
With the Bright Minds Program at HOUSTEX, high school students had a chance to explore the latest technologies and connect with industry professionals. At the convention center, students saw a virtual reality training program where machines are used to simulate the floor of a worksite. Kouts High School from a small, close-knit community near Valparaiso, Indiana, came out ahead and won the manufacturing competition at the 2019 FABTECH Student Summit. The SME Education Foundation Student Summit event series is one solution that through student-centric programming, effectively addresses the misperception often held by young people that manufacturing is dull, dirty and dying.
The 2019 WESTEC Student Summit Racing Challenge winning team from Sato Academy of Mathematics and Science in Long Beach, California used important skills like teamwork and collaboration that they acquired from their classroom training to blow away the manufacturing competition and secure the victory.

The WESTEC 2019 Student Summit will host over 200 high school students and introduce them to the high tech and exciting career available in the modern manufacturing industry through hands-on challenges and competitions, guided event show-floor tours and technology demonstrations, and inspirational industry guest speakers.
170 high school students from 11 schools descended upon the Eastern States Exposition in West Springfield, Massachusetts from May 14-16 eager to explore and discover manufacturing career opportunities at the SME Education Foundation’s Student Summit event series at EASTEC.
Six high schools from the metro Detroit area brought 174 enthusiastic young minds to RAPID + TCT May 20-23 at the Cobo Center in Detroit, Michigan where the entire additive manufacturing community convened and where industry-accelerating products were launched.
